About Sister Penance

What up, sinners! I'm Saraƒin, creator of Asylum Squad, the Mad Pride webcomic that critiques mainstream psychiatry. (I'm also Sister Penance, the Sister Wendy of fetish nuns.) I'm a seeker, am culturally Anglo-Catholic but still exploring my religious/spiritual path. (I am trying to make sense of my path, I guess you could say I am practising an eclectic, alternative Right Hand Path Christo-Pagan hybrid in my own fun and sassy way, though I also take an interest in Indigenous spirituality, Kabbalah, Orisha devotion, and Eastern yogic studies.) An ENFP on the Myers-Briggs personality test, I am an abbess from the Tank Girl universe, if I was in Hogwarts, I would be in House Gryffindor. My art explores themes including religion and spirituality, pop surrealism, alternative mental health, mythology, psychedelic folk, and high camp. My hobbies include getting drunk on cheap red wine while praying the rosary, dressing up like a fetish nun, watching religious horror and nunsploitation movies with my girl gang, doing Mystery Science Theatre 3000 style heckling of bad Catholic sermons along with the presence of the Holy Spirit, and pointing and laughing at Satan's penis size. I just want what any gal wants: to be plastered all over prayer candles and invoked by millions of followers after my passing. This blog, which is sort of a cross between performance art and contemplation, serves to explore spiritual ideas as I grow and realize myself, and to post artworks and musings in relation to the theme of the soul. (I don't claim to be a teacher, I am a student of the soul as much as anyone else. Much of what I discuss comes from musings and channeled messages that I seek to make sense of.)
